Topic: Artificial Sweeteners???????
Posted: Monday, April 05, 2010 9:30:42 AM
Hi Bec,

I always thought sweetener 961 was on the no go list. So if I have seen it, I have just steered clear of it.

It is really frustrating how they don't have to put a warning on all products with artificial sweeteners in it, no matter what type! That was I would just avoid them all together.

Some soft drinks & fruit juices which aren't "diet" contain artificial sweeteners, but you have to read the ingredients to find that out.

That'd be a good idea for catering for pku events, or kids parties etc.
As you say it is just so expensive for the products here. I make do as much as I can without them. Maybe you could do an online cooking video!

We should organise a Melbourne get together, just an informal one, to actually meet each other face to face and swap stories.

Welcome Nicola!

Good luck with your maternal diet. I have a 2 yo son and am 22 weeks pregnant with my 2nd. If you have any questions I'd be happy to help.

You can email me, or find PKU Australia on facebook.

Absolutely Daisy! But I was told not to worry unless you levels are consistently high. And if they are I'd do more than the required blood tests until they came back down.

Welcome Hayley, I have been on the maternal diet before with my son and am back on it again for my second pregnancy. I'm currently on 15g protein a day, and I am 21 weeks pregnant. This time I started at 9.5g a day. But with my son I started on 6g a day.

It is really hard, and I had to learn the diet from scratch because I was taken off diet at 2, so had no recollection of what it was like or what it involved.

Good luck! I'm sure you'll do fine.

Hi Kate, I didn't know you were pregnant congratulations! How many weeks are you now? I'm 16w 1day.

Both my pregnancies were planned, but I think because you found out early that you were pregnant and you were already on a relaxed diet, you should be fine.

What did the dieticians and Dr's say? Did you get an appointment to see them?

Good luck!

Hi Tom,

It can be so frustrating, and pretty isolating knowing that no one around you can really appreciate your daily struggle with PKU. But you will find PKUTree really helpful. All our lives have been touched by PKU somehow, and we all have our own personal struggles which vary greatly.

Although it can be difficult at times, just remember you are not alone, there are people here of all ages and experiences who are here to lend an ear.

Keep in touch.

Club dark chocolate peppermint flavour is only 3.5g protein per 100g!

Good news for the sweet tooth!

Club dark chocolate (original) is only 5g of protein per 100g!

Both taste great! Get stuck into it!

I have these noodles all the time, they are great for a quick lunch at work. And they are much nicer than the Loprofin noddle cups.
