Hi Everyone! Was just wondering if anyone else has been through this and has any helpful ideas on what I can do.

Emily (now 2yrs) came down with a viral infection Friday night, she has had a high temp, chesty cough, snotty nose and generally feeling miserable all weekend. She has refused to eat anything, have tried all her favourite foods and treats to try and get her protien into her but she just goes histerical and puts herself into a coughing fit.

She also has not been drinking all her phenex 2. I have tried mixing 30ml of cows milk into her formula to add 1g protien but she still has trouble getting it down.

I have tried calling the Dietician today but as per usual you get the answering machine and don't expect to her to call back for a few days.

She is now on her 5th day without food! Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do, or has anyone else been in this situation?

I would really appreciate any thoughts.

Thanks Bec

Hi you will probably find that her levels will be high anyway because of the virus, my kids levels go up when they are unwell & most will. They normally say to try watering down their supplement to see if they will drink it when they are sick.
Don't worry too much all kids go off their food at times whether they have PKU or not, she will get back to normal when she is feeling better.

Hi Bec, I know how awful it is when they go off food for a few days. It's hard not to feel helpless. Hopefully by five days she is starting to fight it and back on the mend.
Have you tried soup? A simple pumpkin one or even a jar of baby food might do the trick till her sore throat clears and her appetite comes back.
Good luck
